'the gospel' literally means ‘good news’. It is good news from God in the Bible. Not just to Christians or good religious people, but for the whole human race, a universal message, from God Himself, that brings hope, peace and salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ.

 

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life". John 3:16

The Problem of sin

The Gospel is God’s solution to a problem that we all have, a problem of the heart. We were all created with a free will, we can choose to do what we want, yet the Bible says we have all chosen the same thing. Every person who has ever lived has been a rebel towards God, we have all disobeyed Him and the Bible calls this rebellion sin. In each of us there is that sinful rebellious nature, the Bible says;

    "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23

God is perfect and just and cannot let sin go unpunished. The first half of Romans Chapter 6 verse 23 says;
    "the wages of sin is death" - Romans 6:23a

The death mentioned here is both physical and spiritual. Sin separates us from God, it is a barrier that means we cannot be in His presence and, by inference, Heaven. Sin brought about physical death and sin brings about spiritual death as well, a lost eternity. Each one of us exists eternally, when we die our soul lives on and because of sin it is heading to an eternity away from God, in other words, Hell.

That's mankind’s problem, sin has corrupted us and now we face the terrible consequences.
